Inspired by a photo of a tiled wall piece I embarked on a felting project that challenged my design and engineering skills – way beyond what I expected. I planned the piece, drawing the layout, measuring, calculating the shrinkage of the central red nuno felted piece, but as I worked on it, the piece asked for changes. I wanted to create contrast between the organic red felt piece with the contained straight lines that contains - but not quite - the unruly centre. I had to come up with ways to attach and to add pieces, like the face in the circle and the metal strip on the top and I needed to transform each component to look and feel unique. In the end the piece expresses my own emotional state in these tumultuous times.
